Written by Chindy Praseuthsouk Choy Lee Fut Pennant Hill celebrated its inaugural birthday on Saturday 27 June 2009 at Istana Malaysian restaurant, Thornleigh from 6pm till late. It was a great night and as always, it was good to see many old and new students come together to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Pennant Hills School, as well as 19 years since the inception of the original Choy Lee Fut Cherrybrook School. There was no shortage of conversation and if anything, our two large tables combined certainly made our presence known. I think senior student John was surprised when we all sang Happy Birthday that everyone in the entire restaurant thought it was his birthday and joined in. We were happy to make them think so by making him make a speech! You can always count on the senior students to tell funny stories and relive memorable moments about training, competitions and seminars overseas. There were so many moments that were shared by everyone and it was a good opportunity to get to know some of the new students. In the true Choy Lee Fut style, Sifu Jeremy ordered more than enough food for everyone. There were four plates of everything ranging from curry chicken, peking pork, deep fried spring rolls, beef dumplings, fried rice, chicken satays to stir fried seafood and vegetables, enough to full anyone’s tummy! It’s a miracle we were able to still drag ourselves out of the restaurant by the end of the night. Besides the traditional non-stop “eating”, “laughing”, “cracking jokes” over dinner routine, we all signed a commemorative card to wish the School a happy birthday with our own personalised message to show our support and appreciation to the instructors and the School. To seal the night off, every student was surprised to receive a beautiful silver pen with an engraving that read “Choy Lee Fut Pennant Hills www.clfph.com.au”. They say the pen is mightier than the sword, and as lovely as this sounds as a metaphor, this pen is symbolic and a testimony to the generosity from Sifus Lane and Jeremy for giving their time, knowledge and devotion to us fellow students. I think it goes without saying how proud it made us feel and how well the School has progressed and developed since it relocated to Pennant Hills. Compared to a year ago, the number of students at Pennant Hills has tripled in size, and we have seen the return of some old students. This is a reflection of how successful the School has become. The fact that so many old and new students together with their families came to the celebration, shows their commitment and dedication. The evening could not have turned out any better and I am sure some of us are already looking forward to the next anniversary dinner! Congratulations on a successful and fun night!
